"Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. "And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. -Matthew 7:24-27

An average first time Mom's labor runs 18-24 hours. The body has to warm up, figure out how it gets from point A to B. You can "usually" assume about half the time for your second baby. Now again, every.birth.is.different. but patterns are patterns;) This Mama and I talked on the phone a few months ago when she called to book her birth. Baby number one had been a long birth at the hospital and this time she was set to have a home birth.

So much is revealed during birth, much, most of it non-verbal. It is my favorite part I think somedays of what I do, of what later I see again. It was an honor to watch this family, solid in faith and marriage. Watching as they gathered around them a framework of support. Solid, steady, sure and swift, came this boy on the during the last minutes, on the last day of January.

A few days before her guess date I was fortunate to have a birthday date, my husband and I's first overnight since having children...11 plus year ago! I really believed that she wasn't going early so I was not expecting a hurry up an get here call that next night! I beat her doula and joined the team to prepare the space for Baby Sullivan.

His speedy arrival...3 hours of labor...was a joyous thing for this Mama and his big brother slept through the whole thing.

And they had the best gluten free cupcakes ever!

These amazing parents had to endure a stressful first week with Baby Sullivan needing to be treated at the hospital (unrelated to his birth), but thanks to God he is back home and healthy.

Thank you sweet family W for inviting me into your space and trusting me with such a special day.

So you know I don't do weddings. Except when I adore the people involved. Back in late September my sweet clients (friends!) asked me to photograph their small ceremony at the beginning of December. How could I say no to these college sweethearts whose lives had intersected years later? Rick makes Angie laugh, I mean really laugh. He adores her and their son. Theirs is the serious adult love that happens when life has been led a little and lessons learned. Friends and family gathered at the Poinsett Hotel on 12-13-14 on a sunny December afternoon to celebrate this couple and the life they've begun with each other. I'm so happy I was there. Here's a little peek.
