"one thing about having a baby is that each step of the way you simply cannot imagine loving him any more than you already do, because you are bursting with love, loving as much as you are humanly capable of- and then you do, you love him even more.”
― Anne Lamott

When I met this couple, I knew one thing: they loved their two boys fiercely. Yes, I know everyone loves their kids, but there was something else, something strong and directed and all encompassing about this love. And then I found out their second son has complicated medical issues; yes, now it made sense. There is a super hero love that radiates from a mom whose child has been through the medical system, who has had a critical condition, whose life at one moment or another has been in that terrifying fragile place we parents have nightmares about. There is a forwardness to this love, it lacks periphery, it's single minded focus pulls the family through the dark of illness, it directs, it does. Such a privilege it was to watch this strong mama birth her third son at high noon on a Saturday. Just like the cartoons her boys were missing as they watched in awe at the super human strength she displayed. Playful and laughing and caring right up until the last 5 minutes as her son crowned and was swept into her arms in a beautiful water birth. Her sons will never wonder at how something gets done, how a woman can hold strength and softness within her simultaneously. Happy Birthday Baby R!

The waiting is the hardest part. Greenville/Spartanburg Birth Photographer

Yesterday afternoon my husband's sweet cousin and his wife came up from Atlanta to visit. We headed over to Paris Mountain State Park to snap a few last pictures of them before Baby Declan arrives and two becomes three. First time parents, everything is ready for their sweet boy's arrival and now the waiting game has begun. Doesn't she have the cutest little 37 week belly? We are so excited for them and can't wait to meet the newest Conway!

Hypnobabies Birth: Greenville Birth Photographer

You Are Doing It.

There is an annual birth photography contest that I love to check out. I'm not entering --there are so many wonderful birth photographers from across the world, but my favorite image of 2013 was this one. This was a first time Mom using Hypnobabies, her entire labor was beautiful and the intense connection between her and her husband was inspiring. We are fortunate to have awesome hospital midwives who work to provide a peaceful environment for birth. I think Hypnobabies gives the father a real direction, especially first time ones, in how to support their wives. This birth made me fall in love with Hypnobabies. This was taken during her pushing stage and she was surprised to find her body working according to God's plan and the encouraging look on her husband's face and his belief in her was for me so special. For photographers, I shot this at ISO 2500/1.6/1/125 and it was still super dark. Thank goodness for post processing or I would have missed this connection.
